Part 1: Importance of Fasting Prayer

Many of us fasted and prayed but felt like nothing is changing ? We might be crying out to God, doing everything right, yet nothing seems to change. No results. No breakthrough. Just questions. Then we are not doing it in the right way which God wants.

We see many people in the Bible who fasted in various ways and got the desired, great and unsearchable answers from God.

  • Esther fasted for 3 days without food and water to save her people and for deliverance of the Jews (Esther 4:16), As a result, God saved the entire nation.
  • Daniel did partial fast for 21 days seeking understanding from God (Daniel 9:3; 10:2–3), As a result, received visions and angelic messages.
  • Paul (the Apostle) Fasted 3 days & many more times for repentance and spiritual discipline (Acts 9:9; 2 Corinthians 11:27) As a result, Became a powerful apostle.
  • Cornelius Fasted for 4 days for Seeking God (Acts 10:30) as a result, stood as the First Gentile  who received the Holy Spirit.
  • Early Church fasted & prayed  before taking major decisions & seeking God’s direction (Acts 13:2–3; 14:23) as a result, Missionaries were sent; churches were established.
  • Moses fasted for 40 days to receive God’s law (Exodus 34:28; Deuteronomy 9:9) as a result, Received the Ten Commandments; God revealed His glory.
  • Elijah fasted for 40 days seeking strength after fear and discouragement (1 Kings 19:8) as a result, God spoke in a small voice and renewed him.
  • Jesus fasted for 40 days as a preparation for ministry (Matthew 4:1–2; Luke 4:1–2) as a result, had overcome temptations; began His public ministry in power.

So firstly, let's understand the concept of Fasting according to the scriptures;

  • What is Fasting & How Fasting helps us ?
  • What are the different ways to Fast ?
  • How we have to fast to get breakthrough from every difficulty/ temptation?
Fasting is not about skipping meals to impress people (Matthew 6:16) but about Humbling ourselves before God, Seeking God’s presence, Repenting and surrendering, Hearing God’s voice & Aligning with God’s will

Fasting is a spiritual discipline to draw us closer to God and align our hearts with His will. There is a supernatural power in Fasting the right way that God wants us to do and Fasting helps us :
  • To make right decisions
  • To prepare for the ministry (Matthew 4:1–2)
  • To submit for God's will
  • To gain strength / wisdom to face any obstacle or problems
  • To get direction and guidance (Ezra 8:21)
  • To grow spiritually (Luke 2:37)
  • To repent for all our sins before God (Nehemiah 9:1)
  • For deliverance and victory (Esther 4:16)
Summary:
Through fasting, people grow closer to God, hear His voice more clearly, receive divine guidance, experience repentance and inner transformation, gain spiritual strength, overcome temptations, and witness breakthroughs.
