Carols: Proclaiming the Purpose of Christ’s Birth (Part 1)
Christmas carols are not just seasonal songs or cultural traditions. They are proclamations of the Gospel. Long before microphones and church buildings, carols carried the message of Christ into homes, streets, and hearts. Every melody declares why Jesus was born. The word “Carol” comes from the Latin word “Carula”, which means: A joyful song or a song of praise.
In general, we can say;
- Celebrate Christ's Birth (Purpose)
- Teach The Bible Truths (What we need to do)
- Share the Gospel in Simple & Memorable Way (How we need to do)
- Purpose of Christ's Birth : Jesus was not born by accident or merely to mark a festival. His birth was divinely planned and eternally purposeful.
- To Save Humanity from Sin: “You shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21) As the verse says, The primary purpose of Christ’s birth was salvation. He came to the world to save us as a SAVIOUR.
- To Reveal God to the World: “No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son… has made Him known.” (John 1:18) Through only Jesus, we see God’s Love, Mercy, Holiness and Compassion. He was ready for the sacrifice just to make us understand how loving our God is.
- To bring God near to us(Immanuel): “They shall call His name Immanuel.” (Matthew 1:23) Christ’s birth shows a God who dwells among His people. God didn't save us being far from a distant but as a human God sent His only Son to sacrifice the amazing & Wonderful life for us.
- To Bring Light into Darkness: “The true light… gives light to everyone.” (John 1:9) Jesus entered a dark world to bring, Hope, Truth and A new life altogether. Just to help us to come out of darkness- He is helping us out even till today.
- To Fulfill God’s Promises: “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” (Luke 4:21) Christ’s birth fulfilled 48 of Old Testament prophecies (according to the Bible Scholars), proving God’s faithfulness and this shows that "......He who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:23)
- To Establish God’s Kingdom: “The kingdom of God has come near.” (Mark 1:15) Jesus came as King, not political— but spiritual—bringing righteousness and peace.
- To Call Humanity to Worship and Obedience: “Let us adore Him.” Like the shepherds and wise men, Christ’s birth invites us to, Worship, Surrender and Follow Him...
